Spice Buns
Kit’s favorite dessert
Dough
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp yeast
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg
Rolls
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup dark sugar
- 1 tbs cinnaspice
Make dough: Warm milk slightly then whisk in sugar and yeast. Set aside until yeast bubbly. In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and milk mixture. Knead until dough tacky (if sticky, add additional flour 1 tbs at a time until right texture.) Cover bowl and set in warm place to rise for 1.5 to 2 hours (it should double.)
Make rolls: Once dough ready, grease baking pan then pour honey into bottom, covering it completely. Roll out dough onto lightly greased surface until around 18″ wide and 8-10″ tall. Brush dough with melted butter. Combine dark sugar and cinnaspice then spread over dough. Roll up dough longways (so 18″-long roll.) Cut into 12 even pieces. Arrange pieces into baking pan. Cover pan and set aside to rise for 20 minutes. Bake at moderate heat for 25-30 minutes (or until a nice golden brown.) Let buns cool for 10-15 minutes before cutting.
