Behind the Characters’ Quirks
In addition to giving my characters personality types and color seasons, I also like to give them a hobby, trait, or preference that’s one of mine to help connect me to the characters. Here are some of those quirks for the main characters in the Calatini Tales Books.
The Spellbinding Courtship
- Selena & Aragon: Their belief (and bonding over) that people should treat others like they want to be treated.
The Enchanted Bird
- Wren: Her favorite color (green) and love of shokolat (i.e. chocolate.) Plus, she’s a writer, and everyone comes to her when they want information about something.
- Hawke: Him playing the violin. I took fiddle lessons and was in orchestra (although I often played viola) in high school (along with most of my friends.)
The Nightmara Affair
- Kiera & Devon: Their sense of duty and hunger to remain busy, feeling at a loss when their work is completed.
The Secret Soulbond
- Annalise & Dare: Their love of animals and the outdoors as well as preferring life outside of town. However, I don’t have a menagerie like them—just cats.
The Goddess’s Illusion
- Kit: Her megrims (i.e. migraines.) Like Kit, I’ve suffered them for most of my life, and I’m so grateful for the recent advances in CGRP antagonists that have helped make my migraines manageable. Those drugs actually inspired the boon the Goddess gives Kit in the epilogue. 😉
- Also, Kit’s proper name is Katherine, but she never uses it, and I’ve always gone by Katherine.
- Mel: Although his major quirk is his love of sweets, I don’t actually share that (I love all food equally, lol.) However, I do have a tendency to forget to delegate like Mel.
The Sun-Nymph Bride
- Pippa: Her certainty in knowing what she wants and pursuing it.
- Edouard: His Myers-Briggs personality type is the same as mine. In fact, if you combine him and Wren, that’s basically me, although I’m probably a bit more like Edouard than Wren.
The Beast Curse
- Juliet: Her strong work drive that compels her to achieve.
- Oakmoor: His love of gingyr and sparkling gingyr (i.e. ginger and ginger beer.)
