Calatini: The Central Duchies
from Parkstone’s The History of Damensea
Nestled in the heart of Calatini, Childes, Landcastle, and Osbourne revolve around agriculture and commerce.
Childes
Ruling Family: Hawke
With the richest land in Calatini, Childes is dominated by agriculture of all kinds. Toward the east, farmers usually grow grain. Toward the north, farmers often tend fruit trees. Toward the west, farmers usually raise livestock. Toward the south, farmers often grow vegetables. The farmers of Childes rarely transport their goods—merchants and craft guilds do.
Landcastle
Ruling Family: Cassell
Just south of Childes, Landcastle is filled with craft guilds (like weavers, brewers, tanners, masons, metalsmiths, carpenters, and more) that transform the raw agricultural products of Childes into other goods. The craft guilds have a joint council that meets yearly to discuss standards, problems, and other affairs.
Osbourne
Ruling Family: Laurent
Between Merrilea (containing Ormas, Calatini’s largest port) and Blackham (the transportation leaders of Calatini), Osbourne is the heart of the merchant guild. Since many merchants travel, most in Osbourne speak several languages, including the secret merchant tongue. The people of this duchy also pride themselves on being shrewd hagglers.
