The Mirror of Wisdom
from Parkstone’s The History of Damensea
One of the most extravagant faegifts ever recorded, the Mirror of Wisdom was given to King Sarastor by Queen Mynee during their courtship. From a noble family in Linwick, Queen Mynee commissioned the mirror from the finest Linwick artisans. The massive Mirror of Wisdom is 2.5′ wide by 6′ tall. The mirror glass was crafted from silica and silver unearthed from Linwick magical deposits. Its mahogany frame was bought from wood elves and carved with four crescent moon faces and flowing vines. To enhance the mirror’s power, it was bathed in water from the divination pool of Orandia’s Seer, which gave the mirror its peculiar opalescence.
To activate the Mirror of Wisdom, the watcher asks the mirror a question. In response, the mirror hums faintly and glows a milky white before showing the watcher images they most need to see to answer their question. The mirror draws power from the watcher, so the watcher must take care not to pose too broad a question because the mirror could kill them to answer it.
However, Queen Mynee enjoyed using this perilous mirror, and she unfortunately lost her life due to this predilection. After the mirror killed her and induced their son’s premature birth, King Sarastor forbade using the Mirror of Wisdom.* Their son, our current monarch King Devon IV, has followed his father’s precept and never used this enchanted mirror.
Since it was gifted to King Sarastor, the Mirror of Wisdom has hung behind a white velvet curtain on the wall behind the royal thrones of white marble and gold. To prevent anyone from using the mirror, the throne room is kept locked except during official functions.
* None know why King Sarastor disregarded his own precept during King Devon’s fifteenth year, but the mirror inspired King Sarastor to hire Lady Juliet as royal witch and order her to create the puissant protection charm King Sarastor gave his son on his sixteenth natalday.
