More Classes of Witches
from Saunders’ The Basics of Magic
Below are ten more special classes of witches that have certain types of powers. As in my earlier chapter, more special classes exist.
- Sun Witches: Witches who cast spells using the power of the sun and are fed by sunlight, so their power is much weaker at night or during eclipses. They are excellent at creating light spells, and they historically helped teach other witches how to power their spells with sunlight (a common practice now.) They can use the power of the sun to burn or to heal.
- Cosmic Witches: Witches who cast spells using the power of the moon and the stars, so their power is much greater at night. Unlike sun witches, they don’t use the light of the moon or the stars to power their spells (it’s not strong enough.) However, they can use the power of the moon to alter the tides, and the power of the stars to achieve or bestow clarity. They are also excellent at sleep spells, illusion spells, and mystical spells.
- Sea Witches: Witches who are cast spells using and are powered by the sea. Because the sea is powerful, sea witches are often powerful and can see more, especially when near or on the ocean. They are excellent at controlling the waves, communicating with sea creatures, and locating sunken treasure or other nautical artifacts.
- Hearth Witches: Witches whose spells to tend their homes and kitchens are especially potent. They can effortlessly clean, cook, sew, repair/tend homes, and maintain house gardens. They can also perform minor healing spells that use household ingredients. Hearth witches are often close to brownies and will often exchange recipes or gossip with them.
- War Witches: Most often great warriors, war witches are powered by combat. Having one often guarantees an army’s victory (unless the opposing side also has one.) They excel at enchanting weapons, predicting enemy movements, and inspiring their army. They can also inflame hostilities during battle but can heal differences once a victor has won.
- Chaos Witches: Witches who are powered by chaos. Their magic can stir trouble as well as alter reality. The change they create can be positive or negative, but it is always substantial. Their spells can destroy and create new life. They are also almost as talented as nature witches at weather magic.
- Lore Witches: Witches who possess great knowledge of most things, are skilled at researching situations, and have an almost infinite capacity for learning. They excel at unearthing the one obscure fact that can solve a situation and providing historical perspective. They make exceptional librarians, teachers, and sages. They usually own many, many books and scrolls, and they often carry a book they’ve enchanted with a library spell so they can access their massive library from anywhere.
- Witch Priests: Witches who have been called to become priests, and they often receive extra power if they properly pray to their deity. They can instinctively sense if magic was creataed by a god’s (or avatar’s) blessing or curse, often being able to tell which ones. Some witch priests may also be another special class of witch, most often witch healers.
- Artist Witches: Witches who are artists whose magic is powered by their art. They most often use art spells. There are many types of artist witches: bard witches (music), image witches (paintings/sketches), sculpture witches (sculpture/statues), dance/tumbler witches (dance/acrobatics), design witches (design/architecture), and cook witches (food/drink). Creating or performing art spells are only done by master of their art. Most of the spells available at Ambrosia or The Arte of Spells are created by artist witches.
- Illusion Witches: Witches whose illusion and glamour spells are especially potent. They excel at decoy charms, invisibility cloaks, projected scenes, communication mirrors, and other mirage spells. The main thing with their magic is that they rarely change anything other than the appearance of items or creatures.
